CASTLES, CUDGELS—AND MURDER!

After the worst breakup in human history, Robbi Bryan needs a carefree summer and a place to fly her falcon. To give her wounded heart time to recover, she joins the Sherwood Renaissance Faire. But the faire holds much more than jugglers, archers, and a chance to reenact the days of yore. Robbi finds herself entangled in a web of secrets, lies, rivalries, and murder. The last thing she has time for is a handsome Scotsman with some hefty baggage of his own.

Mal McClaren has found a haven and a retreat among the permanent residents of Sherwood, Tennessee’s year-round Ren Faire. When a murder threatens his home, the brawny Scotsman comes up with a risky plan to find the killer and save the faire. He didn’t count on falling for a feisty falconer with a troubled past.

Trouble, the famous black cat detective, has never lost a human in his charge. He’s also never had—or wanted—a sidekick. But with a killer on the loose and the future of the faire in jeopardy, Trouble must work paw-in-hoof with Tuck, an incorrigible potbellied pig, to unmask the killer and show two wounded people that love is a risk worth taking.

Trouble Most Faire by Jaden Terrell is wonderfully written to transport you to the world of Renaissance Faires.

Will Robbi find out who killed her best friend?

Robyn Bryan

Our heroine is Robyn Bryan, or Robbi to her friends. She is described as a “tiny little girl,” but that isn’t how she thinks of herself. Sure, she is little, but she is much stronger than one would think. Robbi is also kindhearted. She is, however, a bit broken as her father recently passed away, and she broke up with an abusive boyfriend. Let’s not forget that she also is a falconer and fantastic at archery. I was immediately rooting for Robbi. Robbi seemed like an underdog, but she has this incredible inner strength and ability to look for the good. She is a fantastic character.

Robbi headed to the Sherwood, Tennessee, Renaissance Faire to stay with her best friend Laura. However, when she arrives, she finds Laura is deceased. This set a series of events into motion that pits the year-long residents of the faire against each other. We see how Robbi finds love and friendship among the misfits living at the faire. They call themselves Rens. I genuinely like the scenes with Robbi and her kestrel.

Mal McClaren

Our hero is Mal McClaren. He lives at the faire with his sister, Eleanor. Mal was a veterinarian before his wife divorced him and made him sell off everything to pay her off. So, you can say he is a bit damaged as well. Mal is the handyman; he raises sheep and performs at the faire’s events. Everyone like him and his sister.

I like Mal. He is a strong character with the perfect amount of damage to complement Robbi’s needs. The sparks were flying from the beginning for Mal and Robbi. You know Mal is a great guy because he has a herding dog, Scarlett, and a pet pig named Tuck.Trouble Most Faire CR

Trouble, the Black Cat Detective

Trouble is on the scene as he is staying with Laura while Tammy is in Europe on a book-buying tour. He is agitated that he wasn’t there to protect Laura when she needed him most. So, he takes it upon himself to find the culprit. He has enlisted the assistance of Tuck as his Watson. I enjoyed the links that Trouble goes to find out the truth and his willingness to assist the humans at risk of his own demise.

Five Stars

I have only been to a couple of Renaissance Faires, but I bet this one is really fun, especially since the buildings are permanent. Ms. Terrell has a lovely writing style that transports you there. It felt like I spent the afternoon with the characters running around the fairgrounds. My rating for Trouble Most Faire by Jaden Terrell is five stars. I highly recommend this story, and I will be looking for more books by Jaden Terrell.
